About Us

Are you searching for truth? Do you know how to live a set apart life?

Set apartness is living an obedient life unto YHVH. We examine the Scriptures and will share our findings with you to help you live your life set apart unto YHVH our Elohim. Here are a few passages that motivates us towards set apart living.

Isaiah 62:12
12 And they shall be called, “The Set-apart People, the Redeemed of יהוה.”

 1 Peter 3:15
15 but set apart Messiah as Elohim in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

Titus 2:11–14
11 For the grace of Elohim has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great Elohim and Savior, Messiah Y’shua, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

Titus 3:8
8 This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed Elohim will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.

2 Timothy 2:20–22
20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on YHVH from a pure heart.

What is the purpose of this site?

We, as Torah obedient believers in Y’shua, want to share through this website what we learn with others. We are all on a journey of discovering and learning YHVH’s set apart way. We have decided to write what we learn into blog posts; this enables us to share it with others and also be able to reference back to it later. It has happened in the past that we wanted to share some truth, we have learned with others, just to find that we have forgotten the scriptural reference or other details. We have experienced this as very ineffective and frustrating; often having to go back and research everything again. It is also useful to reference back to when we come to an appointed time (moed) to see what we have learned the previous cycle.
Thus, our objective is to share and to learn. We invite every person reading this blog to comment in the comment box below the article. This will enable us to learn from other people’s insights as well. No opinion stated in any article is cast in stone – we all learn and grow and as we learn and grow, we may change our opinion. We want to remain teachable and will therefore often review past articles and correct according to our understanding.

What makes the site different?

We want to focus a lot on “What does it mean to live a holy (set apart) life”. In the Messianic community, we currently find many sites focusing on Torah Studies, Apologetics, and/or end-time prophecies. These are required, but none of them tell me what it means to me on a day-to-day basis. Yes, we will also do interesting articles on Torah studies, Apologetics, and other relevant articles, but this is not the primary focus of our website.

Who are we?

We are Torah (commandment) observant believers in Y’shua the Messiah. We believe that our redemption is only through our belief in Him. Through His Sacrificial death, Y’shua took our sins upon Him, thereby redeeming us from eternal damnation. Y’shua is His Hebrew name and we will therefor not refer to Him by any other name. However, we do not condemn anybody who does, we are all learning!

We choose to follow the commandments out of love for our Heavenly Father. We know that there is no justification in keeping the commandments or law, as some prefer to refer to it. The commandments were given to us all as children of  YHVH in order to show us how to live, thereby keeping us safe and healthy.
We believe that Abba YHVH wants us to know and use His name and keep His instructions. As believers in Him we have become part of His chosen people, Israel. We have not replaced Israel in any way or form, but are grafted into Israel as described in Romans 11:

 Romans 11:17–21
17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. 19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; 21 for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.

We are a family of four, currently living in the Netherlands. We came to the realization of the full extend of Scripture around 2003 and we have chosen to live our lives set apart unto Him, the best we can. We are on a journey, discovering His will and truth, as revealed in His Scriptures. In the process, we are unlearning a lot of teaching that we received along the way. We have learned the hard way, that it is essential to prove everything you hear for yourself from His Word. Thus, a lot of what you will see here, is the findings of our searches for His truth.

We homeschool our children which allow us to ensure that they can also, live set apart lives without having to first unlearn lies and half-truths. We believe that a solid family structure is the foundation for a set apart life!

The name of this site

Hebrew “qadosh” (קֹדֶשׁqō∙ḏěš) mostly translated “holy” is better translated as “set apart for a specific reason/person”. Thus, if we want to lead a “holy” life, we need to set ourselves apart from the rest of the world and do what YHVH expects from us. Thus, we should be set apart people for Him.

Qadosh has to do primarily with YHVH’s separating from the world that which He chooses to devote to Himself. As YHVH’s redemptive plan unfolded through the OT, the “set apart” became associated with the character of YHVH’s separated people conforming to His revealed law.

The Ethical Mandate of YHVH’s chosen people, in separation from the world, are called to an ethical life in conformity to His revealed word. The command to His people is to “be set apart; for I am set apart” (Lev. 11:44–45; Lev. 19:2; Lev. 20:26). This demand is not abrogated with the coming of the Messiah but is to find its fulfillment in the community (1 Cor. 7:34; Eph. 1:4; Col. 1:22; 1 Pet. 1:16). Believers are to perfect “set apartness in the fear of YHVH” (2 Cor. 7:1). If necessary, YHVH will discipline the followers of Messiah for their own good so they “can share His set apartness” (Heb. 12:10).
