When must the barley be aviv?

The sheafs are ready for First Fruits offerings at the start of the year

This year there has been a lot of discussion regarding the start of the new year. Most of these discussions were centered around the topic of when the barley needs to be aviv. Should it be before the new year starts or only when the Wave Sheaf offering is brought? In our article in 2012 we took the position that the barley must be aviv before the new year is announced. Due to all these discussions we went back and took a deeper look at this topic. Let us see if our understanding of the Scriptures needs to be adapted.

Ancient map with Jerusalem as the center of the world

As we are celebrating the feasts of Pesach, Unleavened Bread and First Fruits, we have not prepared a study. Instead, we share our experiences from Jerusalem with you. Come and have a look at what Pesach in Jerusalem is all about. Enjoy the celebration with us!

Cleaning out the leaven…being prepared

Written by Schalk_and_Elsa. Posted in Pesach, Unleavened Bread

In a few weeks time we will be celebrating the Passover , the feast of First Fruit and the Feast of Unleavened bread. It is time to start preparing our homes and our hearts for this time. We prepare by removing leaven from our homes, both physical and spiritual. You may think that we still have plenty of time to do this, but you also know how time flies and how busy we all are.

We always think there is plenty of time left, spiritually as well, but is this true? Our lives are not our own, and can be cut short at any time. Will you be ready when that happens, will I? Have you considered this, or do you move these kind of thoughts quickly to the back of your mind, not wanting to think about it? We should not do this, but instead ponder this and make sure we are adequately prepared. Leaven can’t remove itself and just as we prepare for this feast, by removing all leaven from our homes, we are to make sure we are spiritually prepared too.

Greetings from Jerusalem

This week we are spending our Pesach break in Jerusalem. This means that we have not had enough time for a study that we can present to you. What we can offer is some pictures of Jerusalem during the Pesach season. Hope you enjoy these. We will be back with our normal studies next week.
