See what Jerusalem looks like during Sukkot

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We recently posted some photos of Jerusalem during the feast of Sukkot.  To give you an even better feel, we have put together a short (7 minutes) video of what Jerusalem is like.  Have a look.  Maybe you will join us next time for one of the pilgrimage feasts.

Enjoy!

  1. I enjoyed your video very much! Thank you for sharing it :)

  2. I used to post these “Feasts In Jerusalem” blogs on Rooted In Torah. I no longer do. You hold the lawless of Israel in much too high regard, as you do the city of Jerusalem and the land of Israel, which is now, before the return of Messiah, just another defiled piece of real estate. You are helping to further the Zionist agenda and need to study much before you can teach if you uphold the wicked there who do not keep Sabbath, whose favorite new delicacy is pork and who mock our Messiah on public television.

    1. Having a high regard for Jerusalem does not imply that we sanction everything that all the inhabitants of that city does. We are not pro or anti Zionists. THe politics of the land is not relevant. What is relevant is what our Elohim tells us to do?

      Deut 12:5
“But you shall seek YHVH at the place which YHVH your Elohim will choose from all your tribes, to establish His name there for His dwelling, and there you shall come.

When last did you seek YHVH in the place He chose to put His name? When last did you obey His commandment and come to the place He chose to put His name for the three pilgrimage feasts? Beware:

      Matt 7:2-3
“For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.
“Why do you alook at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

Show me any other city in the world that prohibits work on Sabbath? Which other major city shuts down their public transport systems in honor of the Sabbath? Jerusalem may not be perfect, but it is better than any other city when it comes to enforcing the commandments of YHVH.

Do not become swept away with the anti-semitists that use the Zionist argument to turn people against His People and the place He chose to put His name!

Thank you for posting this to us.

  4. First of all, it is impossible to be “anti-Semitic” towards people who bear no relation to Noah’s son Shem (with whom the word “Semite/Shemite” originated). Those who inhabit Israel today are mostly former Khazars who are the descendants of Japheth, not Shem, and whose ancestors had never set foot in the land of Israel, having come from the Caspian Sea region of the Caucasus. Anyone speaking against them, I guess, would be anti-Japhethitic?

I am not at all anti-Semitic. I love brother Judah despite his shortcomings. I have no love, however, for usurpers and those who are described in Revelation 2:9 and 3:9.

I pray that you will come to understand why YHWH allowed his temple to be destroyed 40 years after the curtain was torn in the “Kodesh Kodeshim.” His glory is no longer there — no temple, no YHWH. Has not his name been removed, also? I won’t go into great detail in order that this comment remain contained. Many do not fully grasp this today and why they feel they must travel to Jerusalem for the feasts. It is written that “YHWH will gather his elect from the four corners of the Earth,” as this is where we have been scattered. We are to be a light to the nations where we have been scattered. If you observe your feasts in Jerusalem – then you are not observing them where you have been scattered and you end up teaching nothing to your neighbors about them.

You do realize the verse you quoted was about hypocrisy and not merely “pointing out sin,” correct? Mat 7:3 “And why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the plank in your own eye? Otherwise, how could we believe this: 2 Tim 3:16 “All Scripture is breathed by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness.”

Schalk and Elsa, you do a service to YHWH with this blog and teach a lot of truth. I do feel it is my duty to YHWH to try to correct a brother and sister whom I feel to be in error on a specific topic, so that they will not continue to teach untruth in that matter. We will not agree on all things. Steel sharpens steel as we discuss these things and work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

    1. Hi Gina,

Who do you believe are currently the remnant of His people?

Based on your comments, I would like to hear how you interpret the following Scripture:

      Deuteronomy 16:16–17
“Three times in a year all your males shall appear before YHVH your Elohim in the place which He chooses, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear before YHVH empty-handed. “Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of YHVH your Elohim which He has given you.

Where is the place He chose to put his name?

The hyprocrisy I was referring to is the fact that you judge us for our love for Jerusalem, yet you refuse to obey the commandment mentioned above. With your comments you are teaching people not to follow the commandments. Thus we also feel it our duty to make you aware what you are doing. Here is a reminder for you:

      Matthew 5:18–19
18 “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 “Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

By teaching against Jerusalem, what are you teaching?

  6. Which city bears his name today? Jerusalem? Where is his name in that name?
How do you reconcile this verse:
2 Kings 23:27 And YHWH said, “Even Yehudah I shall remove from My presence, as I have removed Israell, and I shall reject this city Yerushalayim which I have chosen, and the House of which I said, ‘My Name is there.’ ”
It seems that ever since Yehuda was removed as was Israel – YHWH removed His Name from that place, and we can easily see today that His Name is not in the name of that city any longer. Notice that YHWH said “I shall reject this city Yerushalayim.”
I’m sure we’ve all seen where our Messiah’s death is openly mocked on Israel TV. Did not Benyamin Nentanyahu say last year that he was going to make TALMUD the “law of the land of Israel?” What about the Torah?
Let me remind you of these verses as well:
Deuteronomy 30:1-3 “And it shall be, when all these words come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you shall bring them back to your heart among all the gentiles where YHWH your Elohim drives you, and shall turn back to YHWH our Elohim and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your being, you and your children, then YHWH your Elohim shall turn back your captivity, and shall have compassion on you, and He shall turn back and gather you from all the peoples where YHWH your Elohim has scattered you.”
Notice we bring them to heart and obey WHERE WE HAVE BEEN SCATTERED. Then YHWH will gather us, we do not move of our own accord. This is YHWH’s perfect plan for those of us in covenant to bring the light to the gentiles where we have been scattered and they can witness our fruit. This is who the remnant is. Who do you assume the remnant to be if not whom are identified by the verses above? Will he not gather his remnant from the four corners of the Earth? What about those with no means to attend feast days in Jerusalem? Are they tossed in the pit for not being able to go three times per year? Do you understand what Paul meant when he wrote that WE ARE THE TEMPLE? Do you understand why our Mashiach ascended into the tabernacle in the Kingdom to be our mediator? Do you understand why that had to be – because of our scattering? So anywhere in the world we can return to the covenant, be a light to the nations where we have been scattered, and come into covenant right at home!
One day YHWH’s Name will return to that place, when his City comes down with the bride in it. Then his presence and his name will be again in Yerushalayim. Then all nations will come to celebrate YHWH’s festivals. But right now, (as in the days of Noah) the whole Earth is defiled. That’s why it has to be created anew. Until that time, YHWH has removed His temple, has removed His Name from that place, He has rejected that city from a land that upholds Talmud over Torah and mocks the Messiah. And you claim this as the Set-Apart place to go and observe the Feasts of YHWH when we are told to do these where we have been scattered, and that consistutes the “Good News,” that we can now come into covenant anywhere we are, wherever we may have been scattered all over the face of the earth.
You say I am disobeying by not going to Jerusalem for the festivals. I think you are in disobedience for going to a wicked place under your own power that no longer bears his name instead of waiting until the cleansing has taken place and YHWH moves us back into the land himself.
One day we will all be taught the entire truth. Until then, there will always be subjects on which we disagree. We will all be of one mind some day, but, as always in YHWH’s perfect timing, it needn’t be today.
    Shalom.

    1. Hi Gina,

Thanks for your response. I am not going to deal with all your statements, but rather focus on the two key claims you make :
      1. The fact that YHVH has left the city
      2. We are now the remnant

The verse that you quote, 2 Kings 23:27, must be read in its complete context. This is important for all doctrine you want to build.
This verse is recorded in the historical context where Israel had already been sent into exile, but Judah still remained in the land. Despite what happened to Israel, they kept on sinning. The king Josiah tried to return the people to YHVH, even instituting Pesach in Jerusalem again, but it is too late. YHVH told him that he would be rewarded, but the nation would still go into exile. This then also happened, the nation was taken away to Babylon! Thus, this verse has already been fulfilled.

In Daniel 9 we see that Daniel realized that this time in exile is over. He repented on behalf of the nation and YHVH allowed them to return. In the books of Ezra and Nehemiah we learn about the details of this return.

      Ezra 3:1–5
1 Now when the seventh month came, and the sons of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem. 2 Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brothers arose and built the altar of the Elohim of Israel to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of YHVH. 3 So they set up the altar on its foundation, for they were terrified because of the peoples of the lands; and they offered burnt offerings on it to YHVH, burnt offerings morning and evening. 4 They celebrated the Feast of Booths, as it is written, and offered the fixed number of burnt offerings daily, according to the ordinance, as each day required; 5 and afterward there was a continual burnt offering, also for the new moons and for all the fixed festivals of YHVH that were consecrated, and from everyone who offered a freewill offering to YHVH.

The people started to rebuild the temple, but after a while they got distracted by life and focused on other things. YHVH sent His prophet Haggai to warn the people that they must rebuild His temple.

      Haggai 1:7–9
7 Thus says the Elohim of hosts, “Consider your ways! 8 “Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified,” says YHVH. 9 “You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?” declares the Elohim of hosts, “Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.

We see that the people got the message and put the effort in to rebuild the Temple.

      Ezra 6:15–16
15 This temple was completed on the third day of the month Adar; it was the sixth year of the reign of King Darius. 16 And the sons of Israel, the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of YHVH with joy.
Thus, the prophecy that you quoted was fulfilled, but the people were allowed to return to the land once they had spent their years in captivity. Upon their return, they were instructed by YHVH to rebuild His house. Thus, He did return to them like He said He would.

Later the people fall back to their old ways and again YHVH is not pleased with them. He result is that YHVH tells them that His glory has left the Temple.

      Ezekiel 10:18–19
18 Then the glory of YHVH departed from the threshold of the temple and stood over the cherubim. 19 When the cherubim departed, they lifted their wings and rose up from the earth in my sight with the wheels beside them; and they stood still at the entrance of the east gate of YHVH’S house, and the glory of the Elohim of Israel hovered over them.

      Please note two things:
      1. It does not mention that YHVH left Jerusalem! It simply states His glory departed from the Temple. If you know the history of the temple around the fall of the temple, you will know that the Temple was completely defiled with blood and death. This is a major reason for the glory of YHVH leaving the temple. He cannot dwell amongst death and spilled blood.
      2. He still calls it His House! Even though He cannot dwell there, it still belongs to Him.

Thus, we have no Scriptural proof that YHVH has removed His name from Jerusalem after the return from exile. Even when the Romans destroyed the Temple, they left the people in the land. You can read about this in Josephus.

Now let us turn to your second major claim. “We are now the remant.” In this “we” I am assuming that you mean the Gentiles that now return to Torah and His ways.

If this is true, then it implies that YHVH has broken His covenant with Abraham. This cannot be true, because YHVH does not break covenants. Please read our articles on covenants and specifically read the article “Breaking the Covenant”.

Paul also confirms this with the following verses:

      Romans 11:1–2
1 I say then, YHVH has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 YHVH has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?

Paul also agrees that the people have stumbled, just like they are doing today, but this was included in the plan of YHVH.

      Romans 11:11–12
11 I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. 12 Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be!

Paul tells us that His People will be the root stock that we get grafted into. He also warns us against doctrines like the one you are promoting. We must not think that we are better than them. We are the people that are grafted into them. Some of them were cut off and the same can happen to us.

      Romans 11:17–21
17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. 19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; 21 for if YHVH did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.

Please take this advice from Paul and do not think that we are better than they are. This is simply a new version of replacement theology that has reared its ugly head from the pride of some people in our communities. Rather watch what happens to them and fear YHVH.
Paul also confirms this stance in his letter to the Galatians. Here he takes another route and mentions that we also become children of Abraham. That is, we join His People, not replace His People.

      Galatians 3:26–29
26 For you are all sons of Elohim through faith in Messiah Y’Shua. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Messiah have clothed yourselves with Messiah. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Messiah Y’Shua. 29 And if you belong to Messiah, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.

I hope that you see that we need to be very careful not to run from the left ditch, church replacement theology & rabbinic belief, to the right ditch, replacement theology via anti-rabbinic and anti-Semitic groups, but should rather get onto the road. This road is clearly explained to us in all Scripture.

  7. I honestly was not expecting a reply to my last comment and I appreciate your response. You make very good points throughout. It is difficult for me to reconcile, however, that YHWH’s name remained in Jerusalem while both Yochanan and the Messiah conducted their ministries outside the gates of the city, since the temple/priest system was so corrupt in that time. But you give me something to think about and study with the scriptures you reference.

As for the definition of the remnant, I believe Galatians 3:29: And if ye be Messiah’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I do realize we are grafted in and do not hold with replacement theology of any type. If my former comments put me in that position, I must apologize. I know we are grafted in and are partakers in the root. And I feel no animosity whatsoever toward our brother, Judah, the true Hebrews who are the descendants of Abraham. My argument is against only those who are usurpers, pretenders, attempting to take ownership of something that was never theirs to begin with (referenced in Rev. 2:9 and 3:9).

I realize that I’m a good distance away from perfect understanding and knowledge. I thank YHWH that there are people out there who will discuss (whether in agreement or disagreement) these things as I seek only truth and a better understanding of YHWH’s word.

In my aim to be not right but righteous, I appreciate your response and your zeal for the word. Thank you for the open discussion of these ideas.
