“You shall have a holy convocation”

Written by Schalk_and_Elsa. Posted in Appointed times, Sabbath

This may seem like a strange title for an article, but it is not so strange after all. Do you know what it means to have a holy convocation? I thought I did, until I did this study. This study was prompted by a dear friend who asked the question: are we commanded to assemble on the Sabbath? This is a good question, with a unexpected answer. Assembling on the Sabbath and Feast days with like minded believers is a huge blessing, but is this what is commanded with the words “you shall have a holy convocation?”

Mix not…what does this mean?

We have recently proclaimed: “All that YHVH has spoken; we will do, and we will be obedient.” This urges us to investigation of our lives. Are we doing all that YHVH has spoken and are we obedient? One issue, of many, YHVH led me to look into, is mixing. The prohibition to mix certain things is something that is often overlooked and seems quite unimportant. So why would we want to spend any time investigating this? How are we to understand these commandments?

How to correct in love

How to correct in love

We have come to understand, through personal experience and this study, that not following this procedure of correction, as laid out in Scripture, is equal to not showing love. Not correcting fellow believers does them a disservice. They will happily continue in sin, which will ultimately cause their spiritual death and the loss of their souls to Satan. Is this what you would like for your friends?

How to learn self-control and why we need to

Have you ever battled to lose weight or to stick to an exercise program? You endure for a while, but then one day in your weakness you eat a chocolate, or you decide to sleep in instead of getting up early to exercise. This first transgression may be the first step to failure depending on how you handle this mishap.
What I have described here is not sin, but these battles we fight every day can be compared to our battle against sin. This battle is a spiritual battle and giving in to temptation could be the first step you take in throwing away your entire life for a moment’s pleasure, as illustrated in the little story above about the flies and the honey.
