It is almost Sukkot, the festival of joy! Every year we find ourselves in need of review of the Scriptures regarding the feast in order to make sure we don’t miss out on anything. For, this reason, we decided to write a short article with just the basics and links to the other articles we have written on the topic. It makes it easier to find the information.

Pilgrimage feasts and Jerusalem, His resting place forever

Three of the seven commanded feasts, are pilgrimage festivals. That means that the celebrant is to go up to Jerusalem for the feast. These three festivals are: the Feast of Unleavened bread, Shavuot and Sukkot. Are we required to follow this commandment to go up to Jerusalem? Is it only for the inhabitants of the land Israel? Maybe it was solely commanded while the Tabernacle or the Temple was still in use? We all want to do what is right. We will endeavor in this study to answer these questions.

When you enter the land – Understanding the full context leads to better understanding

I have often heard the phrase “When you enter the land” mentioned in discussion on the applicability to a specific commandment. I have previously spoken about our logic getting in the way of our obedience. Could the use of this condition be another example of us trying to reason which of the instructions of YHVH to obey? A good example of this is the sabbatical year. Should we or shouldn’t we keep the instructions regarding the sabbatical year? Is it only applicable to people living in Israel or is it applicable to all? What about the pilgrimage feasts? Should we go to Israel three times a year or not? Let us do a detailed study of this phrase and see what conclusions we can make and how that needs to be applied in our lives today.
