The wave sheaf and the sabbatical year
Nobody can deny that YHVH is in control of everything. We read of YHVH’s greatness throughout scripture. In Job 37:1-39:30, and in many other passages, YHVH’s greatness is described. How He has made and controls nature, the weather, and every living creature. He causes the lightning to strike, the rain to fall; He causes the wind to blow. YHVH is in control! If we believe this, which we and most people do, we cannot deny that YHVH was in control of what happened this year with the barley. YHVH made the rain fall, He caused the barley and other grains to germinate, it is also He who caused it to grow and develop the way it did. I believe YHVH did this for several reasons.

When must the barley be aviv?
This year there has been a lot of discussion regarding the start of the new year. Most of these discussions were centered around the topic of when the barley needs to be aviv. Should it be before the new year starts or only when the Wave Sheaf offering is brought? In our article in 2012 we took the position that the barley must be aviv before the new year is announced. Due to all these discussions we went back and took a deeper look at this topic. Let us see if our understanding of the Scriptures needs to be adapted.

A Practical guide for the Passover Season
YHVH gave us His appointed times, firstly, as memorials and secondly as rehearsals to teach us His ways. When we discover His truth, He guides us to follow the ancient paths, His paths. His ways are described in His Word; His rest day, His feasts and His instructions to guide us in our lives. He gave these instructions not to put a burden on us, but to give us life. In this article, we shall focus on the practical observance of the Feast of Passover, Unleavened bread and First fruits. These are the first feasts of the new biblical year. We also include a Haggadah for you to print out and use during your seder meal. May you have a blessed passover season!

Is the search for abib barley scriptural?
Every year during the start of the annual cycle of biblical feasts, as determined in Leviticus 23, there is a question that starts to show up in all the Messianic circles – “Will the barley be abib?” For people new to this walk it is at first a very strange way of determining the year. Once you get to know the agricultural base of the biblical calendar these do start to add up. However, where does this frantic barley search come from? Is it a biblical commandment for us to search for the barley or is it simply a traditions that we have seen from the Karaites and now we also decided to do it? This article will investigate if there is any biblical foundation for this search.
