Petitioning YHVH

Written by Schalk_and_Elsa. Posted in Prayer

Hannah was childless and it caused her great sorrow. She petitioned YHVH for a son, and He gave her children. Adonijah petitioned Bathsheba for Abishag, she was beautiful and he wanted her to be his wife. However, he had ulterior motives…Esther risked her life to petition king Ahasuerus for the life of her people. Job, after suffering so much hardship that he could not bear it any more petitioned YHVH to take his life. Instead YHVH healed him and restored back to him what he lost. The Israelites petitioned YHVH for meat with devastating consequences. Zacharias petitioned YHVH for a child, and this child was a great prophet who prepared the way for the Messiah.

We can learn much from all these narratives. A petition is a form of prayer, but whereas prayer encompasses all communication with YHVH, petition is to make a specific request of YHVH. It can be compared to a formal request made to a sovereign.

The purpose of this study is to understand what it means to petition YHVH. We shall look at each of these narratives to see what we can learn.

Written by Schalk_and_Elsa. Posted in Faith, Spiritual Warfare

Who doesn’t like to be praised? Praise builds up. You may have witnessed the glow on a little child’s face when you give them praise. YHVH wants us to praise Him, He deserves our praise, but the way I understand it, is that it is not for His benefit, but for ours. There is great power in praise. In this article we will search the scriptures to see what we can learn about praise from scripture.

The mind will justify what the heart desires

The mind will justify what the heart desires. This is not only true when it comes to the keeping of YHVH’s commandments. The fears in our hearts can ruin us. Our mind is able to bend reality to justify not only our desires, but also these fears. Our hearts are deceitful and evil comes forth from it. Our challenge is to overcome this through repentance and seek YHVH’s kingdom and counsel in everything we do.

The names of other Deities

Written by Schalk_and_Elsa. Posted in False teachings

It is written in Scripture that we are not to mention the names of other deities. Is it correct to understand this to mean that we are not to, even say these names when referring to another god? In this study, we shall see what we can learn from scripture in this regard. We shall also look into the roots of words. There are teachings that state that we cannot use certain English words like mercy, grace, faith and wisdom because the roots of these words are of heathen or pagan origin. We shall show you from Scripture how both these teachings are in contradiction with Scripture.
